Young Voices Against SGBV Competition 5.0

Overview

In commemoration of 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence 2021, FYCI instituted an annual award for young people, tagged the Young Voices Against SGBV Award. The award is given to winners of the Young Voices Against SGBV Competition. This year, we are excited to present the fifth edition of the competition: Young Voices 5.0.

The competition is aimed at:

  • stimulating youth interest in SGBV issues

  • harnessing youth creativity into anti-SGBV messaging

  • stimulating anti-SGBV discourse among youth

  • encouraging young people to join the fight against SGBV

How to Enter

Young people aged 18–35 are eligible to participate in this competition. Participants can enter the competition by following the steps below

  1. Study: Read our blog post on digital violence here.

  2. Create: Create a video (max. 2 minutes) using a creative art form (music, spoken word, drama, etc.) to express lessons on preventing digital violence.

  3. Upload: Upload the video on Facebook or Instagram. Tag @fycinitiative and use the hashtags #YoungVoicesAgainstSGBV and #YoungVoices5.

  4. Apply: Apply by filling in the application form below

Look out for the announcement of the winners on our social media platforms (@fycinitiative). The winners will be announced before the end of January 2026.

Prizes & Awards

The competition will run on social media for the entire sixteen days of activism against gender-based violence, that is, from Tuesday, 25 November to Wednesday, 10 December 2025. Winners will receive the Young Voices Against SGBV Award, which consists of the following

  1. First place: 100,000 naira

  2. Second place: 70,000 naira

  3. Third place: 50,000 naira

In addition to cash gifts, winners will also receive the following benefits:

  • They will be presented the Young Voices Against SGBV plaque

  • They will be inaugurated as Anti-SGBV Ambassadors, who will continue to work with FYCI after the competition to champion anti-SGBV messaging

  • Their video entries will be publised widely

  • They will be profiled on our website

Assessment Criteria

Entries will be assessed according to the following criteria:

  • Powerful anti-SGBV messaging.

  • Strong commitment to join the fight against SGBV after the competition.

  • High level of creativity and innovation
